Smolikas is the second tallest mountain in Greece with an altitude of 2,637m. On its alpine fields, just below its top, at 2,200m, there is a small alpine lake, the Dragon Lake. Its name comes from a small reptile found in its waters but, there's also a myth around it. According to the myth, in the ancient times there was a big dragon on the mountain, who was fighting with another dragon on the opposite mountain called Tymfi. A similar lake, also a dragon-lake, can be found on Mt Tymfi too. Smolikas' Dragon lake's shape resembles a heart.
